BIOGRAPHY

Eusebio Quintero López was born in Vijes, Valle del Cauca, Colombia, on 6 March 1910, although he and his family had long believed he was born 15 March. He was born to Rosenda Quintero, who was single at the time. His grandmother was Zenaida Quintero. He worked as a blacksmith. At some point, he married to Melida Barco. The couple had six children before his wife’s passing in 1962.

When he turned 100 years old, he rode a horse around the town. At the age of 106, he lived with his daughter, Enith Quintero Barco, with whom he lived ever since becoming a widower. At the age of 108, he was mentally sharp and could still walk with the help of a cane. At the time of his 110th birthday, he had two living daughters, Oliva (born in 1935) and Enith (born in 1943), 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

As of April 2023, he was still able to walk and is very lucid.

Eusebio Quintero López passed away in Vijes, Department of Valle del Cauca, Colombia, on 16 July 2023, at the age of 113 years, 132 days.

RECOGNITION

On 19 June 2021, at the age of 111 years, 106 days, he surpassed the age of Daniel Guzmán García, becoming the oldest documented man ever from Colombia.

His age was verified by Santiago García Medina and Stefan Maglov, validated by the LAS on 22 January 2022, and was later accepted by LongeviQuest.

Following the passing of 114-year-old Sofía Rojas de Díaz on 30 July 2022, he became the oldest known living person in Colombia.

At the time of his passing, he was the second-oldest living man, behind only Juan Vicente Pérez Mora of Venezuela. Upon his death, Efraín Antonio Ríos García succeeded him as the oldest living person in Colombia and the world’s second-oldest living man.
