LongeviQuest is pleased to announce the age validation of Bonita Gibson of the United States at age 112. She was born in Hoxie, Sheridan County, Kansas, USA on 4 July 1911. Gibson’s childhood was split between Kansas and Missouri. Gifted a puppy at nine, a cherished memory she carried lifelong.
Gibson met her husband in high school. They married during the Depression, and built a resilient life with chickens, gardens, and potatoes, facing challenges head-on. They raised a son, explored the country, and weathered childhood illnesses, leaving a legacy of strength and resilience.

Widowed in 2003, she followed her son to Nashville, and then her grandchildren to Detroit. Embracing adventure even in her 90s, she flew to San Diego and loved the zoo and a boat cruise. At 102, Gibson moved into assisted living, enjoying her first Detroit Tigers game at 105 and a casino visit at 106. At 109, surrounded by a large family of mostly boys and one girl, she battled COVID and survived it without hospitalization.
When asked about the secret of her longevity, she advised avoiding junk food and trying to exercise, humorously adding, “No smoking or drinking. Cut out all the good stuff, actually.”
On 1 May 2022, she became the oldest living person in the U.S. state of Michigan following the death of 114-year-old Irene Dunham.
