LongeviQuest has certified that Tomisaburo Wakui of Kanagawa Prefecture, age 110, is now the oldest living man in Japan after the death of 112-year-old Gisaburō Sonobe of Chiba Prefecture.
Tomisaburō Wakui was born in Japan on 28 November 1913. Reportedly, in his youth, he worked as a tuna seller at Tsukiji Uogashi in Tokyo, and tuna remains his favorite food even in his old age.

On 14 September 2017, he received a special visit from the mayor of Atsugi City and a letter of congratulations to celebrate his status as the oldest living man in Atsugi City.
Now the oldest man in Japan, their city of Atsugi has commented, “We would like to express our heartfelt respect to Mr. Wakui, who has walked through the turbulent times of Taisho, Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa, and pray that he will continue to live in good health.”
