LongeviQuest is pleased to announce the age validation of Annie Wilson of the United States at age 112. She was born in Union County, North Carolina, United States on 20 April 1910. She was the ninth of ten siblings. Wilson grew up on a farm and attended a Fairview one-room schoolhouse Matthews until fourth grade. When the schools consolidated, she transferred to Matthews High School, which served grades 1-11.
Wilson graduated in 1928 and started working at the Southern Bell Telephone Co. in Charlotte. At 19, she married her husband and the couple had two children. Wilson’s husband lost his job during the Great Depression, so they moved in with her parents. They lived on the farm until her husband found a new job making women’s hosiery. Wilson was a housewife for most of her life, but she started working as a sales clerk in a department store once her children were old enough for school. She worked there for 10 years, then worked for an insurance company and a chemical plant before retiring at the age of 65.
Wilson lived in Mecklenburg County her entire life. She lived on her own until she had a minor stroke in her 90s, after which she decided to move into a retirement community. At the age of 112, she resided at the Brookdale Carriage Club in Charlotte.
She passed away in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA, on 17 August 2022, at the age of 112 years, 119 days. She was survived by her two children, 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. At the time of death, she was the oldest living person in the U.S. state of North Carolina.
